Notorious Thoroughbred trainer Bob Baffert should be suspended from racing for three years, not three months.

Baffert, as the highest profile figure in Thoroughbred racing, symbolizes the culture that puts horses second to profit.

- The L.A. Times reported that 75 horses under Baffert's care died in recent years. Horses are dying prematurely and at alarming rates on racetracks across the country, with doping and bad breeding explaining the early-onset deaths.

- Baffert's had more than 30 drug violations in states across America during his career.  A recent case, involving apparent 2021 Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit, resulted in the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, California Horse Racing Board, New York State Gaming Commission, and the Maryland Racing Commission formally suspending him from their tracks for 90 days, preventing him from running in any of the three Triple Crown races this year.  Medina Spirit tested positive for illegal levels of the drug betamethasone, and Baffert walked back his story after denying the horse had been administered the drug.

Doping scandals and the indictment of dozens of horse trainers, veterinarians, and other interested parties have proven that doping is rampant in the so-called 'Sport of Kings,' with horses like Baffert's Medina Spirit dropping dead across America.
