Ask your Representatives in Congress to Cosponsor the Health Equity and Accountability Act

Kidney disease has a disproportionate impact on African Americans and people of Hispanic ethnicity. African-Americans make up about 13% of the American public, but over 35% of the people on dialysis. Hispanics are almost 1.3 times more likely to get kidney disease than non-Hispanics. The Health Equity and Accountability Act(H.R. 5942) would help to ensure that at-risk populations have access to the health care they need and provide funds to better understand why the disease affects certain communities more than others.

Please contact your Representative and request that they cosponsor the Health Equity and Accountability Act. In addition to funding for health care programs and research, the bill includes financing to train future physicians, nurses and other health care professionals from ethnically and racially diverse backgrounds. Additionally, the bill includes resources for educating the current workforce on culturally and linguistically appropriate health services.

As such a large percentage of kidney patients are from diverse backgrounds, the Health Equity and Accountability Act could assist in slowing the number of new cases of kidney failure.
