Ask your Representative to cosponsor legislation to keep dialysis patients insured
The American Kidney Fund (AKF), the nation’s largest nonprofit serving people with kidney disease, helps 1 in 5 dialysis patients nationwide maintain their health insurance by providing charitable premium assistance.
Charitable premium assistance helps low-income patients with high-cost chronic conditions pay for their health insurance premiums. The American Kidney Fund’s program is called the Health Insurance Premium Program (HIPP). Without the help from AKF, many patients would be unable to afford medical care.
Some insurance companies across the county no longer want to accept payments from charities like AKF. This position by insurance companies puts low-income and financially struggling dialysis patients at risk of losing their insurance.
On Oct. 5, H.R. 3976, the Access to Marketplace Insurance Act, was introduced. The bill would require insurance companies to accept payments from nonprofit organizations like AKF that serve people who are living with serious health conditions and need charitable assistance to stay insured.
Please contact your Representative to request cosponsorship of this important legislation!
