Impeach Trump

6 févr. 2017
Well, if America wanted to be entertained by the White House, it is certainly getting its money’s worth.
It has been a non-stop three weeks since Donald Trump was inaugurated, and in that time we have seen a slew of executive orders, the complete redesign of the National Security Counsel after booting generals in favor of Steve Bannon, and leaks from the White House that paint a picture of a childish imp of a president, willing to forsake decades of important alliances over the size of his hands.
The executive branch is anything but boring.
But one thing that hasn’t changed in all of this is the fact that the President continues to Tweet his random thoughts as if he were an average Joe Blow off the streets. And while we can handle the occasional crazy tweet, what happened this week goes way past the point of acceptable.
We all believed his ban on immigrants from seven predominantly-Muslim nations was unconstitutional, but none of that really mattered until a lawsuit was filed in Washington State and a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order to halt the ban.
the “Equal Protection Clause; the Establishment Clause; Due Process; and the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). It offered detailed reasons why each of these were violated by the administration’s order, which blocks citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from coming to the United States for 90 days, prohibits all refugees for 120 days and places an indefinite halt to admission of refugees from Syria.”
the Trump administration believes it will ultimately succeed, and justifies that belief because of the way powers have been structured/granted in matters of immigration and national security. “The Trump administration and the Department of Justice argued that the state was likely to fail when a judge ultimately rules on the merits of the case. According to the DOJ, Congress has complete power over the admission and exclusion of aliens, which it has expressly delegated to the President through the INA (Immigration and Nationality Act).”
But this is where the Trump Administration reveals its failure of understanding of basic checks and balances. Though a power may be explicitly granted to the executive branch, it does not give the president free will to be able to do as he wishes under any and all circumstances. The Constitution trumps Trump, and apparently that has pissed the president off.
So Trump did what Trump does – he took to Twitter. And his tweets are frightening, because they undermine the very Constitution he swore to protect.
please try to understand, that our judicial system was designed to protect the rights of our citizens. Where Congress and the president fail, our judges step in. And when you publicly undermine them, you threaten one of the most fundamental of American principles. Rather than lash out – on Twitter, for God’s sake – then maybe spend a little more than one hour designing, writing, and implementing your ban. The courts say it is unlawful, then by God, put on your big-boy underoos and act like a grown up.
