Dear Supporters,

The Soft Lights Foundation would like to provide strategies for your Representative in Congress to take action to protect the public from blinding LED headlights.  The following 4 action items can be taken by your Representative.   You may call and email your Representative in Congress and request that they take the following actions:

1. NHTSA Investigation - NHTSA is required to open an investigation into the safety hazards of LED headlights under 49 U.S.C. § 30118.  The Soft Lights Foundation submitted a regulatory petition to NHTSA, requesting compliance with this statute, but NHTSA has failed to respond or comply.  Your Rep. can submit a letter to NHTSA requesting a response as to why NHTSA has not complied with 49 U.S.C. § 30118 and opened an investigation into LED low beam headlight glare.

2. FDA Report - 21 U.S. Code § 360jj requires the FDA to provide studies "from time to time" related to electronic products that emit electromagnetic radiation.  The FDA has never provided a report to Congress on the hazards of LED products, including LED vehicle headlamps. You Rep. can submit a letter to the FDA requesting that the FDA comply with 21 U.S. Code § 360jj and submit a report to Congress on LED headlights.

3. FDA Investigation - 21 U.S. Code § 360ll and § 360nn require the Food and Drug Administration to open an investigation into LED headlights because the headlights emit electromagnetic radiation and it has been shown conclusively that LED headlights are a safety hazard. Your Rep. can submit a letter to the FDA requesting a response as to why the FDA has not complied with  21 U.S. Code § 360ll and § 360nn and opened an investigation into the photobiological hazards of LED headlights.

4. GAO - Your Rep. may submit a request to the General Accountability Office and the Congressional Research Service to request that those departments provide an unbiased report on LED headlights to Congress.

Sincerely,

Mark Baker
