On May 15, 2024, the Soft Lights Foundation submitted a citizen regulatory petition to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to set limits on Correlated Color Temperature for headlamps and Daytime Running Lights.

At least as far back as 1937, scientific organizations such as the French Academy of Sciences have known that yellow is the optimal color for visual acuity for the driver and for reducing glare for oncoming drivers and pedestrians.  It is negligent and reckless for NHTSA to have allowed the automakers to switch to high-blue, high-glare LED headlights when NHTSA has known for nearly 100 years that blue is a hazardous and dangerous color for headlights and that yellow is the best and safest color.
