Petition update

United we win for Kijuan Byrd

Dr. Shamara Byrd
Brandon, FL, United States

Jan 26, 2015 — On behalf of the Byrd family, I would like to express my deep gratitude to all of you that have signed this petition. It is incredible to see the public support for this cause -- nearly 20,000 signatures in no time! We hope that this is just a major first step in the battle to bring improved standards to the armed security industry. Your support will help us bring greater voice to elected officials who can begin to fight for these important changes.

There is a lot to learn about the industry and its dangerous loopholes, so I want to share this CNN story with you that was written after a yearlong study of the industry: https://beta.cironline.org/reports/florida-clubgoers-death-shows-weak-links-in-security-guard-licensing/. It highlights the tragic incident that took Kijuan's life and the loop holes in the laws pertaining to the armed guard industry. These loop holes often allow individuals with dangerous and reckless behavior to legally carry a deadly weapon and get hired as an armed security guard. I believe you will find it definitely worth a few minutes of your time to read.

We are asking for your continued support as we fight to bring critical, common sense changes to the armed guard industry. Please continue to share this story and the petition with your friends and networks by sending them to: change.org/armedguardstandards.

Again, the Byrd family is thankful for your signature and your continued support! Have a wonderful week.

Blessings,
Dr. Shamara L. Byrd
