Positive news on the effort to change the name of Fort Hood resulted from the October 9 debate between Republican Senator John Cornyn and his Democratic opponent M. J. Hegar.  Senator Cornyn said that he supports the establishment of a commission to study military bases named for Confederates.  Ms. Hegar said favors making the change.

Dallas Morning News Austin Bureau’s Robert T. Garrett in an October 1, 2020 story titled, “Cornyn, Hegar duel,” reported the candidates’ statements on the Fort Hood issue. The fort, located just outside of Killeen, TX honors Confederate Gen. John Bell Hood.
