I thought I would share this comment below a supporter made a few days ago day on the petition which will be sent to fire safety regulators in U.K. U.S. and worldwide along with all comments made once petition reaches 500 signatures. There have been several good comments but this one covers just about everything the fire safety authorities need to hear loud and clear. I believe this supporter speaks for all Grenfell Tower Victims and I thank her and all of you that expressed your concerns and signed the petition. Only 33 signatures needed now to reach 500 mark which is not a lot but the message needs to be heard sooner rather than later. If you have not made a comment to express your concerns you can still do so at any time and reply to others that have and click the heart on those you agree with.
Thanks for your support!
Who should be liable? First, the makers of highly-flammable building cladding. They should be sued out of business. Their product should be globally banned. Second, the builders who knowingly use the dangerous but cheaper flammables to "save" money by risking lives... they should be exposed and publicly sued out of business. Third, the inspectors who fail to do their jobs or to insist on safety regulations that keep up with new developments in materials. What good are safety regulations if they are not strictly enforced or if they are not sufficiently protective? Why were not sprinklers and fire suppression equipment mandatory? These lax inspectors should be replaced and penalized. Fourth, the writers of safety laws and regulations, who fail to keep them up to date and enforceable. What part of SAFETY do they not understand? Flammable building materials?
Lack of internal fire suppression? Fifth, the owners of rental buildings who knowingly provide rental units that put lives and property at risk, in order to make more money..... they should be sued out of business. How can they sleep at night? Fifth, our elected and appointed local, state, and Federal officials, who are supposed to serve the common good and protect life, property, and the pursuit of happiness. Where is their oversight? We must replace them if they are not protecting and serving the good of the people. It's unfathomable that we do not learn from the repeated tragedies of these horrific fires. This is disgusting and disheartening, as well as unconscionable and immoral.
