In the words of an Iowa state judge, “the working conditions at Tyson were unsafe, intolerable, and detrimental, and rose to the level where a reasonable person would feel compelled to quit.” However, sadly, these workers are the ones who continue to bear the brunt of Tyson’s ongoing refusal to take responsibility for the safety of its staff. Now, some workers who took leaves of absences due to fear of COVID-19 outbreaks in their places of work, are being denied unemployment benefits. No one should have to choose between their livelihoods and their lives.
