Last week, dozens of animal and environmental activists joined forces outside Tyson’s annual shareholder meeting to call out the poultry giant’s abusive practices. There, Tyson announced disappointing chicken profits--and now it’s taken to Twitter with a desperate new Valentine’s Day campaign. Stand with us in exposing the truth behind its nuggets today with a quick tweet.
Animal Outlook and our costumed chicken descended on Tyson’s shareholder meeting last week in solidarity with Mighty Earth and nearly a dozen other animal and environmental protection organizations to urge the company to become a truly sustainable food leader by cleaning up its most destructive farming practices--including a request to shift to sustainable plant protein.
Among these practices are Tyson’s cruel and unsustainable breeding and confinement of hundreds of millions of birds each year on filthy, crowded factory farms. Animal Outlook’s recent investigation exposed the devastating effects of cruel genetic manipulation for extremely fast, unnatural growth in Tyson’s supply chain: Birds languished from a variety of illnesses and deformities, and many couldn’t walk because of debilitating leg injuries. At under two months old, these baby birds were already crippled—and trapped inside their own morbidly obese bodies.
Tyson’s CEO recently claimed that plant protein is a “space that [Tyson] want[s] to fully compete in, use all the resources that are available to [it], and be a strong competitor in the marketplace.” Yet the poultry company still doesn’t offer a single vegan option in its new “plant-based” brand, Raised & Rooted—and it continues to treat birds with egregious cruelty.
After announcing subpar results in its chicken business, Tyson’s now taken to Twitter with an appalling new campaign involving chicken nugget bouquets for Valentine’s Day. But this holiday is about spreading love and compassion--not taking lives.
Birds need your voice: Stand with us for compassion today with a quick tweet countering Tyson’s campaign.
