As Tyson Foods prepared for a symposium on the “future of food” this week, the poultry giant’s Vice President of Emerging Proteins was surprised with a bouquet of white roses--but not for good luck. Each represented a million birds who had suffered and died at the hands of the company in just the last two days--and a card urged him to address Tyson’s atrocities and become a true food leader. Fly home our message TODAY: Respond to Tyson’s recent tweet telling it to end cruel rapid growth & shift to fully vegan protein!
More than a quarter million of you have signed our petition since our gut-wrenching investigation exposed egregious abuse and the devastating effects of rapid growth of birds in Tyson’s supply chain, urging it to end this abuse and shift to plant protein.
And yesterday, in advance of Tyson’s symposium with tech partner Plug and Play, Compassion Over Killing delivered a dozen white roses on behalf of our petition signers to Vice President of Emerging Proteins David Ervin, accompanied by the note: “One rose per million birds who died at Tyson in the last 2 days after suffering from crippling rapid growth. Be a true food leader -- end this abuse & shift to vegan protein. Signed, 272,600 concerned consumers.”
After teasing a plant-based protein endeavor and telling Compassion Over Killing that it was “looking at plant protein as the future of protein,” Tyson Foods’ new “plant-based” brand falls short of the mark. It’s not actually plant-based at all, comprising a veggie nugget made with eggs and a blended beef burger.
Moreover, Tyson has still failed to address a major source of suffering in the hundreds of millions of birds it breeds every year: These birds have been genetically manipulated to grow so unnaturally large, so quickly that they can suffer heart attacks and their fragile legs often collapse under their own morbidly obese bodies -- all before they’re even 2 months old!
It’s time for Tyson Foods to become a true food leader. Help spread the wingspan of our campaign TODAY: Send a quick, polite tweet to Tyson Foods urging it to end crippling growth and shift to fully vegan protein!
Thank you for your compassion!
