TAKE ACTION: Join the race against Tyson’s cruelty by posting on the company’s Facebook page! Today, “chickens” took to the streets in Springdale, Arkansas, during the annual Hogeye Marathon sponsored by Tyson Foods, urging the poultry giant to join the race against cruelty. Help us tell Tyson consumers are running from cruelty and toward plant protein by clicking here: http://bit.ly/TysonRace!
As the annual half marathon kicked off in Tyson’s hometown, two costumed, “injured chickens” limped in the street to represent the hundreds of millions of birds languishing for the company’s products each year. Compassion Over Killing’s 2017 investigation exposed egregious abuse of and the devastating effects of rapid growth on birds in Tyson’s supply chain. Tyson’s birds are bred to grow so unnaturally large, so quickly that they can suffer heart attacks and their fragile legs often collapse under their own morbidly obese bodies -- all before they’re even two months old!
Although the poultry giant has taken some promising steps by increasing its investment in cruelty-free plant protein maker Beyond Meat and creating its own line of plant-based bowls to launch soon, it has yet to address this major source of suffering for birds.
So, flanking the marathon were signs reading, “Tyson: End crippling rapid growth in birds!” and “Consumers are running from cruelty. Don’t be the last to the finish line: Shift to plant protein!” Further stretching the wingspan of the campaign, geo-targeted mobile ads reached all of Springdale.
