Why this petition matters

The @JohnWren1950 account is highly regarded by many who follow the #auspol hashtag on Twitter. The account can be controversial, and will challenge the thinking of many, but by and large the account maintains a progressive voice that those on the left of politics largely agree with.
On Tuesday 26th March 2019, without warning Twitter suspended the account on the basis of "Impersonation". Twitter define Impersonation as follows,
"Accounts with similar usernames or that are similar in appearance (e.g. the same profile image) are not automatically in violation of the Impersonation policy. In order to violate our Impersonation policy, the account must portray another entity in a misleading or deceptive manner."
John Wren was a Melbourne Businessman and Labor Party Power-Broker who died in 1953. The @JohnWren1950 account was set-up in homage to him. Given that the original John Wren died 66 years ago, there was no deceptive conduct whatsoever. Further Twitter openly state they do "allow parody accounts" of the type John Wren was.
In March 2018, Twitter removed an impersonator of the @JohnWren1950 account who used the name @JohnWren195O (using an O instead of a zero). This was their case number #78326565. This is an indication that Twitter regarded @JohnWren1950 as the original account a year ago.
I started this petition, because…
Twitter has repeatedly refused to unsuspend the account, despite these facts being made clear to them. Many people would very much like to see @JohnWren1950 return to Twitter. We hope that Twitter may yet reverse their decision if enough people ask them to do so. If you are one of them, please add your name to the petition!
