We are part of a global campaign!

Acol’s Twenty Is Plenty campaign is linked to www.20splenty.org/ - part of a worldwide campaign asking for 20 mph (30 kph) as the norm in cities, towns, and villages. Their website contains a wealth of information in support of that objective. This research, for example, explains that basic physics means that 2.25 times more energy is required to reach 30mph than 20mph. When this is repeated in the real-world environment, where we slow down at junctions, crossings, congestion points and other hazards, acceleration becomes the dominant factor in overall journey emission.
I recently attended a Zoom discussion for Twenty is Plenty campaign groups in the south-east of England and was interested in the fact that our national campaign is against the establishment of 20 mph zones outside schools unless they are part of a wider scheme. If a zone covers only a limited stretch of road outside a school, then parents are encouraged to drive their children into the "safe zone", rather than walk or cycle with them, thereby creating additional hazards and pollution!
Please do continue to share our campaign. Although it would be improper for one individual to try to sign the petition more than once it is, of course, the case that every individual in a household is entitled to their view, so please encourage partners, parents, children etc to sign.
