Hanging on in there...

Since last August, when the campaign to save the Lipatti house in Bucharest was launched, this petition has received just under 2000 signatures. It was instrumental in ensuring that the house was put under special protection while a complicated lawsuit proceeds. The lawsuit grinds on, but eventually it must play itself out - and at that point, I will be in touch again, with the project of turning the house into a magnificent small museum in honour of the great Lipatti. I hope you were able to enjoy some of the musical celebrations to commemorate Lipatti’s centenary year, which are still continuing. There have also been new discoveries: some recordings of Scarlatti and Brahms, a manuscript of one of his compositions in Switzerland, and the only known film footage of Lipatti. I am proud to say that I was lucky enough to discover the latter in a private collection of cine films, and I will be showing it at a talk before the Lipatti Centenary Concert at London’s Cadogan Hall on 28 November. The soloist at the concert is the dazzling Alexandra Dariescu, accompanied by Cristian Mandeal and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (details below).
