Reinstate the 502/503 full route

The Issue

For 6 months this service is being suspended. Streetcars are not being run due to track work and although buses have been put in place the TTC does not provide bus service for the full route. This adds to riders daily commute to and from work. Often streetcars to connect with are full beyond capacity and one has to transfer services at least once both ways, if not more. .

“Dear 502/503 Customers, Further to recent feedback and in the spirit of trying to mitigate your frustration at the ongoing service alterations, we have had another long look at resources and I can update you as follows: •We have looked (again) at the possibility of extending the replacement bus service through to Yonge Street and we carried out a trial last Friday to assess the impact on run times. This is relevant as the overall run time determines the number of vehicles and operators needed to provide a viable service. While the distance between Parliament and Yonge Street is not great, traffic density at peak times and the need to find a place to turn round (bearing in mind that McCaul Street is also under construction) make this impractical. To be more precise, the average trip time went from 40 to 90 minutes. Regrettably, this rules out such an extension so we will remain closely focused on route supervision instead •I am able to add one extra 143 Express service and this will be in place from Monday. I appreciate that this does not help 502/3 customers but where we can improve things, we will. • In parallel, I am pushing TTC and City contractors hard to achieve an early finish on Queen Street. This looks promising but I will hold off formal announcement until I am certain that this can be achieved. I hope this gives you some insight into what we are doing to try to do the right thing for our customers with finite resources. I intend to take action to avoid such an overload of clashing construction works in future as this has severely restricted my ability to give you what you are asking for.
