Happy Persian New Year!
I am writing because, for years, we resisted the Trump Administration together, and I know we are keeping our eyes open for news of his indictment this week.
But the best way to beat Trumpism long term is to support a new generation of diverse, intersectional, and fresh perspectives in elected office. That's why I'm excited to announce that I'm running for California State Senate in my hometown of Orange County (District 37) to make good on the American promise that immigrant families like mine struggled and sacrificed for. And I want to represent the Iranian and LGBTQ+ communities at a time when our rights are under active assault. If elected, I'll be the only Iranian in the legislature and one of the first openly gay Iranians elected anywhere in the world.
