Triumph India needs to acknowledge life-threatening flaw in Street Triple motorcycle
The Issue
Triumph Motorcycles India has been known to take their customers for a ride, with the debacle of advertising their model range with incorrect power figures
Triumph apologises for selling bike with wrong specifications - Hindustan Times
Triumph India: Sold Bikes in India with fake performance figures! - Team-BHP Forum
Triumph India website updated with lower power figures - Overdrive Magazine
Triumph India acknowledged this and offered customers settlements in form of cash or store credit. But something far worse has been transpiring in the form of constant stalling being reported by owners of the Street Triple motorcycle as as mentioned in the following ownership threads
"Just FYI, but there haven't been any instances of the first gear stall issue post the Arrows install. Maybe the bike gets up to temperature much faster, or the slightly higher idle RPM of the Arrows tune makes the difference."
"Unfortunately the Bike's ODO stands at around 3500km still, its not being ridden much. Waiting on the air filter to arrive so I can swap it out, mine has developed the stalling issue recently as-well. Triumph is pathetic with spares availability."
"The first time I experienced the stalling issue, I was cruising at about 100 kmph when the engine turned off and the rear wheel locked. It would've been fatal if I hadn't used the clutch. This was during my ride to Goa, IBW 2015 and the whole experience was terrible until I reached Goa." - Ashok Dayalan
The textbook definition of stalling "A stall of an engine refers to a sudden stopping of the engine turning, usually brought about accidentally. It is commonly applied to the phenomenon whereby an engine abruptly ceases operating and stops turning." Source: Wikipedia
Stalling is very undesirable behavior in any kind of motorised transport and especially dangerous on motorcycles, it can cause fatal harm or injury if it occurs during riding on public roads as it can cause the rear wheel to lock up or leave you powerless when you're trying to negotiate traffic.
The entire owner community is close knit thanks to the earlier debacle and riders from around the country are trying to solve the problem on their own by frequent visits to the service centre. But as the warranty period on for their early customers is ending soon (Street Triple is being sold in India from mid 2014 and carries a 2 year warranty with stipulations on maximum mileage)
We demand that Triumph India acknowledges and works proactively with owners to solve this issue and offer extended warranty to owners with the stalling issue so they will not be charged in the future for any fixes or repairs pertaining to this issue.
