Digby Neck Consolidated School has been serving the families on Digby Neck for over 50 years.  Our School has been a cornerstone of our community during this time and has enabled our children to be educated in a safe, community oriented environment.

The Tri-County Regional School Board has placed Digby Neck Consolidated School up for review for a possible closure.  The alternative provided by the school board is to bus students in to Digby Elementary, however due to the geographic isolation of our communities, this would result in a bus ride for some students of 1 hour 10 minutes or longer in each direction.

There is a right to an education in the Canadian Constitution.  Expecting young children to spend almost 2 1/2 hours on a bus each day places an undue burden on this right.  It is wrong to expect Children, some of whom are as young as 5 years old and others with special needs to a commute of such length.

Children need time to spend with their families, play with their friends, exercise and do their homework.  Many of these activities would suffer greatly if they had to get up at 5:00 each morning to catch a 6:30 bus in the dark and arrive home at 4:00.

Closing the school would do irreparable damage to our community and the education of our children, therefore we implore the Tri-County School Board to do the right thing and keep Digby Neck Consolidated School open for the children and families of Digby Neck.
