Thanks again for signing the petition. My hope is that we'll reach 1,000,000 signatures and I want to keep on working towards that goal - and I hope you will too. Keep on sharing!
300,000 people once walked across Sydney Harbour Bridge in support of reconciliation - so I'm hopeful that with an Australia-wide push we can do this.
I work with Indigenous students every day and I’m inspired by their drive and passion to see justice restored, to have full and meaningful lives and strong self-determination for themselves and their families.
My biggest hope is that we can all work together to bring about change in this country.
We need your support to make the issues plain and keep them in sight.
This week, another death in custody – yet the media remained oddly quiet on this and there has been no official response from the state government concerned.
We need people like you to make sure that the issues do not get swept under the carpet any longer.
I made an addition to the petition to strengthen its requested outcomes and I hope you are in agreement with me on this:
We are calling for the Australian parliament to:
* Broaden the consultative powers of the Referendum Council to research and identify the support for Treaty amongst the First Nations people of Australia, suggesting models for an Assembly of first Nations.
I’m on Twitter if you want to follow the updates there or contact me directly as well. @mary_pia_au
Warm regards
Mary
