Hello Fellow Campaigners

I am stopping by with some VERY important news....

Today, a petition has gone live for the JUSTICE FOR JACK RYAN campaign.

This has been launched by Jack's family - his mum Teresa, dad Noel, sister Ciara and Jack's partner Liz, the mother of the wonderful daughter he never lived to see.

The family has partnered with me and the online newspaper, The Chelsea Citizen, to campaign on two fronts:

  1. For an amendment to the Bail Act to make the surrender of passports mandatory for anyone facing serious criminal charges.
  2. The extradition from Pakistan of Rashid Ali - the driver who killed Jack on Battersea Bridge on 13th January 2021, but who subsequently fled abroad before standing trial - simply because he had been allowed to keep his passport. He was sentenced to five years in prison in his absence, but has never served a day in jail. This campaign is not about retribution - it is about justice.

The Chelsea Citizen will be covering all developments in the Justice For Jack Ryan campaign on its dedicated page HERE. The plan is simple:

We need 10,000 signatures to prompt a response from Government. At 100,000 signatures, our campaign will be debated in Parliament. We will be lobbying the government of Pakistan separately.

We already have some powerful political support ready to back our mission. We also have a strong media campaign in the pipeline, which began with Good Morning Britain last month.

But first we need your signatures. We want this campaign to have strong roots with the people who backed the initial road safety campaign that came out of the horror of Jack's death.

Below is the link to the petition page. Let's make this happen. Don't walk on by.

With our sincere thanks

Rob McGibbon and the  Ryan Family

The full petition citation:

Make passport surrender an automatic bail condition to protect victims’ families, uphold justice and restore confidence in the courts. Prevent criminals absconding while on bail for serious crimes. Currently making this a bail condition is at the discretion of the judge.

Jack Ryan was killed by a speeding driver in 2021, and that driver has never served his sentence. Not requiring the surrender of a passport as a condition within the Bail Act means some defendants charged with serious offences can leave the UK before trial or sentencing, denying justice to victims and their families. The Justice For Jack Ryan campaign calls for passport surrender to become an automatic bail condition in serious criminal cases to help prevent offenders from absconding and restore confidence in the justice system.
