Hello Fine People

Now the Christmas lights have finally faded, I simply wanted to give everyone a firm nudge about the consultation process for Phase 2. It ends on 24th January.

It is vital that as many people as possible engage with this.

TFL has told me that there has already been over 300 submissions. It has done a great job in raising awareness about the consultation (I asked for leafleting at the bridge in early December, and they did exactly that. Thank You).

But there must be more feedback.

The changes that TFL is proposing at this junction are huge and very much welcomed. The remaining THREE arms of the crossroads will have green man crossings. This is an astonishing development, when you consider that this campaign only started two years ago.

However, there are additional changes within the grand plan that have generated strong opposition - namely the No Left Turn into Beaufort Street and the bus lane along the Embankment. There is also considerable concern about the knock-on effect of the No Left Turn change for the residents of Oakley Street (opposite Albert Bridge). This street will become the defacto entry point to Chelsea in this area.

I have heard that the central opposition points have garnered unified support from RBKC leaders and all the local Residents Associations, as well as many local individuals.

The general hope is that TFL will listen and not press ahead with a grand scheme that - despite its good intentions - will lead to negative unintended consequences. Everything must be done to avoid a disappointing outcome.

Equally, no-one want the entire plan jeopardised by a few key issues that can be ironed out with further dialogue.

Please step up and file your submission. Don't walk on by! (Now, I haven't used that ol' mantra for a while!) RM: 10/01/23
