Patients suffering inside Bridgewater State Hospital have not been found guilty of any crime. Yet, conditions and treatment inside Bridewater State Hospital are strikingly similar to what is shown in this video. The difference, judge Steve Leifman cared enough to change the way patients with mental illness are treated.
The Massachusetts Department of Corrections and health care provider Recovery Solutions (Formerly known as Wellpath Recovery Solutions- name changed in an effort hide 1500 lawsuits, 70 deaths and thousands of complaints) do not care enough to change the environment as they are more concerned about protecting jobs.
Both Bridgewater State Hospital leadership teams continue to fail 240 patients suffering every day inside a very toxic and unsafe environment. There is no compassion or willingness to fix the years of abuse reported by the Disability Law Center and the civil rights violations reported by the Department of Justice.
The Massachusetts legislature and Governor Healey should do everything in their power to bring Judge Leifman to Massachusetts to help transition Bridgewater State Hospital into therapeutic facility where patients are safe and receive proper care and treatment. Bridgewater State Hospital has the wrong leadership in place. Significant deterioration inside Bridgewater State Hospital over the past two years reported by media, prison legal, NAMI, and the disability Law Center is a warning that further status quo leadership will result in more deaths.
