We confirm Mr Kantilla was sentenced by Brownhill J this morning.
In brief:
The Crown submitted that the objective seriousness of the offending may warrant a sentence above the mandatory minimum non-parole period.
Her Honour found that Mr Kantilla intended to cause serious harm, but did not accept beyond a reasonable doubt that he intended to kill.
Her Honour accepted that Mr Kantilla had some cognitive impairment limiting his moral culpability.
Her Honour sentenced Mr Kantilla to:
Life Imprisonment
A non-parole period of 20 years.
