Reasons To Support Clock Tower Redevelopment
The Issue
Main Street Newmarket is wonderful but could be so much more with your support!!!
Consider these points:
- Additional downtown residents will provide much needed vitality to Main St, daytime and nighttime
- Redevelopment will encourage a wider variety of businesses and encourage retention of quality retail
- New and existing residents would like to live downtown however quality accommodation does not currently exist ( think absentee slumlords)
- Newmarket as a whole is lacking in new built rental accommodation
- Newmarket must diversify it's rental options to attract new residents to our community, provide for empty nesters and seniors, young singles, couples and families
- Market value, downtown rental accommodation promotes new urbanism policies; proximity to services, attractions, transit and LESS reliance on cars
- Newmarket has little vacant land, vertical development and redevelopment is required to increase the tax base, providing for future community needs, services and infrastructure
- Downtown Newmarket requires revitalization for long term economic viability
- This current proposal is two stories fronting on Main St, stepping back to seven stories behind ( see photo) and is consistent with heritage district redevelopment and intended to maintain Newmarket Heritage Downtown character
- None of the Market Square parking will be lost, in fact it will increase by 4 spots ( presently owned by the Clock Tower) that will be deed to the Town of Newmarket
- The proposed architecture at street level respects Downtown Heritage characteristics, while being tastefully neutral above
