We begin week 3 of the campaign with - incredibly - more than 1,500 supporters. Thank you, thank you, thank you all! We also have the valuable backing of The Victorian Society, The Twentieth Century Society and the East End Preservation Society; we've featured in the national press (The Independent, Financial Times), on BBC Radio London and (extensively) online; last Saturday saw the first of three leafletting campaigns along the Mile End Road; and the architect Michael Yeoman was prompted to defend his scheme in an interview with the Architectural Review. (Do read this - it's a hoot.) We expect further media coverage this week. So far, then, so good. But these are still early days and there's a long way yet to go. The plan is to submit all the signatures (and the accompanying comments) to Tower Hamlets Council in February, by which timethe campaign will have been running for a month. I hope we'll have at least 5,000 signatures by then, and that's only achievable with your help. If each of you can get two other people to sign we'll reach that targetvery soon. So please, please keep spreading the word! This update is also an invitation: if you possibly can, do come along to Spiegelhalter's on either of the next two Saturdays (24th and 31st January). It would be great to have a substantial 'presence' there. No need to let me know in advance - just come to 81 Mile End Road at any time between 12 and 2pm, and remember to wrap up warm. If you'd like to hand out leaflets that would be a great help - but your simple presence will be a great boost to the campaign and show the world that we're not prepared to see the heart and soul of the East End, exemplified by this brave and stubborn little structure, destroyed by developers. Thanks to you all again for your support. David
