Stop Mega Dairies update

Thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign to stop Mega Dairies and the suffering and the environmental damage they cause! We have received encouragement from all quarters over the last couple of months. Compassion in World Farming, Animal Aid, CPRE and many others. We also received support just recently from the Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs - Kerry McCarthy. Unfortunately, I have also received some very odd messages from other MPs. I shall spare the MP's blushes by not naming him but one wrote: "You are not a constituent but have you ever considered that you might be part of the problem? It is devastating to see the closure of small family run dairies like the ones I represent. TB is making it impossible for many to do business yet the "animal welfare" lobby only worry about badgers so the small family farms will all close and we will see huge mega diaries with cattle inside 24 hours a day where they will have no contact with badgers." It is a very ill-informed perspective and you may think it is a bit bonkers! Sadly, it is a view that I believe is quite common. It is not easy getting the message across that the intensification of farming, with all its attendant animal welfare and environmental problems, is not a solution to anything. In the end we all need to work together to combat this madness. STOPIT is just a small part of this battle but I hope with your help it will have an impact. I and many others will be redoubling our efforts in 2016 to draw attention to the problems with Mega Dairies and the attitudes that allows them to exist. If you haven't already, please nag your friends and family to sign the petition and maybe also to object. If everyone got a couple of people to sign and this process continued a few times over we would send a message that would be impossible to ignore !!
