There is speculation that our beloved Centennial Recreation pool will be closing down. Even though the closing of the recreation pool is not confirm, in the event that the Toronto District School Board will proceed with closing the pool, we would like to gather support beforehand to prompt reconsideration.

Not only is this pool an important aspect of our community, it holds great importance to the students of York Memorial Collegiate Institute. Among myself and many other students, we find enjoyment in the participation of our school's swim team. The York Memorial C.I.'s swim team has won numerous awards and achievements over many years - notably, first place titles for overall junior/senior and male/female divisions. I believe that everyone who has been on the team can relate to the feeling of belonging and happiness during practices, competitions and meetings. In addition to the swim team, students use the pool during phys.ed to learn or improve their swimming skills. Learning the fundamental lifesaving skills is important as it will benefit the student and their peers.
