Hi everyone, Just wanted to update you on our protest at Topshop on Saturday 16th April which was organised by my union UVW, and supported by many, many other activists, trade unionists and members of the public. We also went to John Lewis where the cleaners, also members of UVW, are fighting for a living wage too. Currently they are excluded from the John Lewis partnership model, excluded from the annual bonus, and paid poverty wages to top it all off. Here is a 3 minute video from what was a 3 hour protest. I hope you enjoy it. https://www.facebook.com/uvwunion/videos/vl.1709652672647048/1054330941301811/?type=1 Please watch until the end in order to appreciate the sheer scale and absurdity of the police presence. As this photo-journalist noted (see link for full article): "Again, police resources seemed limitless, with at times, nearly as many officers as protesters. Ironic that most of the protesters pay tax, which covers police salaries and overtime, and yet the police were deployed to assist the private security of a huge corporation that aggressively avoids contributing to the UK tax system". https://indyrikki.wordpress.com/2016/04/16/topshop-protests-over-living-wage-and-suspensions/ Thanks again for your support. It means so much to me and I promise to keep you all updated.
