We, the 33,000 signatories of this petition have collectively been on the receiving end of endless vitriol, "birther" labels and trolling from Parliamentarians, mainstream media outlets, and ignorant haters over the past 3 years. Now after 2 resignations, 1 pending inquiry and countless MPs potentially in breach of Section 44(i) of the Constitution, everyone's wondering how this came to be.. how Parliamentarians careers could unravel like this? To us it's always been quite simple: Abide by the Constitution.. the only set of laws of our country that cannot be changed without referendum, and all will be fine. Don't, or fail to be accountable and transparent, and we'll hold you to account. Regardless of what people think of our Constitution, the fact we have this one set of laws that cannot be changed by the government of the day should provide a lot of comfort to Australians everywhere; that we have a rule book that politicians (of whatever persuasion) can't simply ride roughshod over... And that has been the single and most important factor in this so called "birther" debate. In an age where democracy is increasingly corrupted by capitalism, corporate donors and backroom deals, the people have a trump card. Enjoy your democracy while you have it.
