Aotea Sea Scouts
18 May 2017
Today Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, MP for Maungakiekie was officially presented the written and change.org petitions by Stephen Lasham in the presence of Jim Jackson (from The Onehunga Enhancement Society), and Councillor Denise Lee (Auckland Council), during a visit to the Sea Scout Ship on Orpheus Drive in Onehunga. the petitions represent the support of over 1400 people for a reclamation to create new foreshore between the Port of Onehunga and Taumanu Reserve, restoring what was taken from Onehunga when State Highway 20 was built, and providing a future location for Aotea Sea Scouts building. We now need to see if support from Government and action from Auckland Council will see this happen. Sam certainly agreed on seeing the foreshore outside Aotea Sea Scouts close up that it was an environment that needed attention. We are still far from achieving the vision, which will see a wonderful new asset for the public via way of recreational space and restored access to the waterfront, but we have hope. In the meantime evidence for the East West Link board of inquiry needs to be in on Monday, and the hearings will soon follow. Aotea Sea Scouts are representing their case in the hearings. Wish us luck.
