The point is...

The petition and your personal comments have been forwarded to the Premier and NSW Racing Minister in hard copy. This was due to Parliament last Thursday blocking electronic petitions being presented to the Parliament (see previous update). All 1000+ of you who signed want a cap on the number of greyhounds bred for racing NOW, not maybe some time in the future. The overbreeding is a FACT and the huge number of dogs KILLED is a fact. The best remedy is a cap. This way the government can say, this is the number you get and stick to it. Any other measures are band-aids on the problem and are open to manipulation and abuse. The cap was after all an industry idea to overturn the ban, a ban most polls showed had 60% support across NSW. The Iemma report does not recommend a cap because it would be " ineffective because of the export of greyhounds interstate and overseas and existing poor data". We say you get 2000 dogs to meet your racing needs here. If other States or Countries like Macau (with their wonderful animal rights record), New Zealand, Ireland etc need dogs, supply will meet demand and they will breed more or less, that way their 'wastage' problems will be theirs to deal with not NSW's. A cap puts direct downward pressure on 'waste' (read dead dogs) plain and simple. If the Minister reads this I say, One consider our argument. Two the sole responsibility for the death aka 'wastage numbers' of dogs will rest with you and you alone. The numbers whatever they be, will be dictated directly by the decision you make to cap or not cap, this much is sure. Any deaths of pups and dogs, above what would occur at a 2000 dogs bred a year level, (all available wastage data indicates it will be higher without a cap) is on you and you alone. Australian culture is to not unnecessarily kill dogs. Do the Australian thing and don't 'waste' any more dogs then you need to.
