Hope Solo has been suspended from the national team for 6 months for her comments after the game vs Sweden in the 2016 Rio Olympics. While most understand the reason behind the suspension, we all truly agree and believe that 6 months is just way too long. 6 months can easily cause Hope's national team career to be over. Completely over. So, we would like to propose a negotiation. Instead of 6 months, shorten Hope's suspension to 3 months. 3 months would be long enough to make a point and help Hope understand her mistake and learn from it. But three months still gives Hope the assurance to not have her skills and memory fade away in the eyes of Jill Ellis, and wouldn't cause her career to have a good chance of being over. Soon after I wrote this I was notified that her contract has been terminated. Now this is way too much. US Soccer basically just fired her....WHAT?!? Practically firing a soccer player for comments that were said in the heart of the moment after a big loss is absolutely ridiculous. And it also sparks the question about whether the same thing would happen to a USMNT player...after all hope is not the only player who has said something in the heat of the moment. So another call has risen to give hope solo a new contract since the unfortunate and senseless incident of the termination of Hope's contract. Hope Solo is HUMAN. HUMANS MAKE MISTAKES ALL THE TIME. So why is Hope Solo taking the onslaught of punishments when other athletes haven't even been reprimanded? US Soccer wants their teams to be role models to young kids all around the world, right? And kids need to learn that mistakes happen, and mistakes are part of life. Punishing someone so harshly for a simple mistake is the exact opposite of that. Hope solo had literally just lost a huge game in the quarterfinals of the Olympics and then two seconds later had a microphone shoved in her face and asked a question regarding something that pained her above anything else. Why don't you have a press conference later after the game. Emphasis on later, when all emotions can simmer down and all the pain can dull just a bit so nothing rash comes out into the world of media and answers can have time to be thought out before the interviews. So this is all we ask for. A realistic suspension. And a new contact. Equality. Thank you. From USWNT fans
