Eve: I have decided to take action because it starts with me. One person can make a difference, then more will follow. If we don’t take action now, with pollution and climate change, it will only get worse for the next generations. I believe if we all work together for a more sustainable future we can make a big difference for our planet.
Mya: I also believe it is important to take action to ask coffee companies to create a sustainable, fully recyclable, and compostable cup because billions of cups end up in the landfills each year. Many of these cups cannot be recycled due to the plastic and wax lining inside. I even see Tim Hortons, McDonalds, Starbucks, and many other brands of one-time-use cups being littered on roadsides in the cities and rural areas. Tim Hortons committing to joining in on efforts to develop a better cup would be a great. I also believe coffee companies could change their cups now with existing, more sustainable technology and speed up the process of creating the NextGen cup. I hope that change will come swiftly because we need to care for our planet so future generations can appreciate the beauty of this earth.
Ben: When I saw Mya & Eve’s petition to Starbucks, I was inspired to create my own. Plastic waste is an enormous problem in today’s society that needs to be dealt with to protect our oceans, wildlife, and more. As soon as I learnt that 100’s of millions of plastic straws are thrown out by the United States each day I knew I had to do something. I soon created a successful petition asking Starbucks to make the switch from plastic straws to a compostable alternative. They’ve decided to phase them out altogether. After seeing the fantastic support for that petition and the incredible change it made, I knew it was time to find a new issue that needed solving, so I teamed up with Mya & Eve to convince Tim Horton’s to join Starbucks and McDonald’s to design and use a new fully recyclable and compostable cup. We all need to work together to create a more sustainable future for ourselves, wildlife, and future generations.
