The first day of our campaign has welcomed 150 supporters. This tells us that there is an appetite for changes to our provincial housing laws that discriminate against families with pets or hoping to welcome a pet. However we have a long way to go to get the lawmakers to notice.
This week, our 10 year old daughter campaigned to have the "no pet" bylaw removed from our strata. After she put up her "Please Vote Yes! For Pets" poster and gave a personal speech about her struggles with anxiety, she was publicly shamed by another owner. This "adult" accused a child of manipulating people's emotions with her poster and her speech. We failed by 1 vote to overturn the ban on pets in our building.
No child should ever be treated like that for expressing their thoughts about the benefits of pets to those with emotional or physical struggles. She also learned a lesson this week about not giving up so please keep sharing this petition and helping us achieve our goal!
Thank you for your support,
Bruce
