Apparently, the Pope three times, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, asked to open humanitarian corridors in Mariupol. All three times Putin refused him.

According to the Italian media, the Pope wanted to send his trusted cardinal there and take the civilians out of Azovstal on a ship flying the flag of the Vatican.

Now the Vatican is pessimistic about further attempts to organize the evacuation of people from Azovstal.
