Dear Friend,

Almost a decade ago, I met May when she was a first-year student at Berkeley Law assigned to the team representing the refugee case of my interpreter’s family.  A few years later, she became the lead immigration attorney on the case, volunteering for the International Refugee Assistance Project.

May has become a dear friend of mine over the years and is one of the most selfless people I know.  She has successfully resettled a number of our Iraqi and Afghan allies over the years through the thousands of pro bono hours she has devoted to the cause.  May is the reason hope remains that my interpreter’s family will one day escape Iraq and resettle to the United States.  Her efforts overturned a denial of their case into a conditional approval.  On top of her volunteer work as an attorney, May serves with the California State Guard as a First Lieutenant and Director of Logistics.

Earlier this week, May’s 15-month-old niece suffered a tragic accident and is currently fighting for her life. A fundraiser has been organized to help her family with medical expenses.  They need our help.

More information and a donation page is linked below.  Your consideration is so greatly appreciated.  I will be in touch with an update on the refugee case within the next few weeks.  For now, let’s shower May’s family with the same love and kindness that she has provided so many.

Pete
