Animals do feel pain.

Animals do feel pain.
The Issue
MPs have quietly voted to reject the inclusion of animal sentience in to the EU withdrawal bill. This undermines Michael goves pledge to prioritise animal welfare during brexit. The majority of animal welfare legislation is regulated by the EU. The UK may adopt a number of EU regulations however it neglecting of acknowledge animal sentience is of concern. The UK states it will adhere to the animal welfare act 2006, however this does not cover sentience or agricultural animals and wildlife. Animal sentience was incorporated into EU law in 2009 via the Lisbon treaty yet the UK will fail to adopt this. We put this petition forward in an attempt to ask the government to reconsider this decision and reintroduce the commitment into the bill and maintain EU animal welfare standards in the UK.
