I started this petition because Campbell said their natural flavors may come from meat products. They said this online and on the phone many times to many people. Yes, I called because it was so hard to believe, and they said it was true specifically for V8 and Tomato soup. Finally, yesterday, they started telling people that it was not true and they apologized for the confusion. They said the natural flavoring in V8 and Tomato soup are vegetarian (but they won't claim it's vegan for some reason that still confuses me). Here are my problems. 1) Campbell still says the natural flavors in products like Cream of Celery and Cream of Mushroom may come from meat or seafood. I know the products aren't vegan because of the dairy, but it's misleading to not make it clear that there are meat-derived ingredients. They should switch to only plant-based natural flavors. 2) How does a food company's customer care team (they make the food, they don't just sell it like a supermarket) not know something so basic as whether or not some of its most popular products have animal ingredients? Why was it ever a question for them if the vegetable juice and soup had animal products? If their own staff doesn't know what's in these products, how do they expect consumers to trust them? 3) Trust has been lost. Campbell really screwed up. I don't know why we are expected to trust them now. They didn't do anything different, and I really would like them to take some steps to make this better. I am leaving the petition up for now because I'd like to see a statement posted on Campbell's website explaining this situation, and I'd like them to explore "vegetarian" labeling like Progresso uses. I think it should be simple for them to switch to natural flavors that do not come from meat. I know the title of the petition may not still be totally accurate, but I'm choosing to post this and leave it open for now while I try to resolve these concerns rather than making any changes. I think many people who have signed this will agree Campbell needs to take action and make some changes.
