07/11/26 Valdosta Fire Chief Marcus Haynes-Leader Who Truly Showed Up for THEO

Some people attend an important moment in your life.

Others become part of the memory forever.

Today, our family wants to express our deepest gratitude to Valdosta Fire Chief Marcus Haynes for the extraordinary kindness, compassion, and support he showed our son, Theo, during one of the most meaningful moments of his life.

Chief Haynes joined us for Theo's graduation, and he didn't come alone. His wonderful wife and son joined him to celebrate Theo as well.

That meant so much to us.

They weren't there because they had to be. They came as a family to celebrate another family's son. They showed Theo warmth, kindness, and genuine excitement on a day that had taken years of advocacy to finally make possible.

And then Chief Haynes gave Theo something we will treasure forever.

He had a custom jersey made with Theo's name on it and delivered a beautiful, heartfelt speech that touched our entire family.

That jersey was more than a gift.

To us, it represented something at the very heart of everything we have fought for:

Theo was seen.
Theo was celebrated.
Theo belonged.

Chief Haynes has built an extraordinary career of public service. He began with the Valdosta Fire Department as a firefighter in 2007 and worked his way through the ranks, ultimately becoming Fire Chief in 2026. Along the way, his service earned recognition extending far beyond Valdosta, including being named American Legion National Firefighter of the Year.

Those accomplishments speak volumes about the kind of public servant he is.

But our family had the privilege of seeing something that doesn't appear on a résumé or come with an award.

We saw his heart.

We saw a Fire Chief who understood that leadership isn't simply a title or a uniform. Leadership is showing up. It's making people feel valued. It's bringing your own family alongside you to celebrate someone else's child. It's taking the extra time to create something personal because you want that person to know that their life and accomplishments matter.

And we saw that same kindness reflected in his wife and son.

To the entire Haynes family: thank you.

Thank you for joining us.

Thank you for celebrating Theo.

Thank you for your beautiful words, your thoughtful gift, your encouragement, and the genuine kindness you showed our family.

And Chief Haynes, thank you for your service to the Valdosta community and for demonstrating the kind of leadership that reaches far beyond the walls of a fire station.

As we continue our work toward Theo's Law, we will carry moments like this with us.

Because ultimately, this movement is about something very simple:

Every person deserves to be seen.
Every person deserves to be included.
Every person deserves to have their milestones celebrated.

Chief Haynes and his family didn't just say they believed that.

They showed us.
