ANOTHER SLED DOG DIES IN AGONY TRYING TO PLEASE HIS MASTER IN CRUEL YUKON QUEST 1000-MILE DEATH RACE

Feb 12, 2019 —

I am incensed. Yet another defenseless sled dog has paid with his life trying to please his master in the DEADLY YUKON QUEST 1,000-mile Sled Dog Race.

The Yukon Quest’s Official Site states last night a five-year-old male dog named Joker on Misha Wiljes’ team died near Central. The musher carried Joker to the Central checkpoint in her sled and the Yukon Quest will conduct a preliminary necropsy within two days. https://bit.ly/2RXPRTv

Every year at least one dog dies during this race. And they don’t die pretty – they die in agony often choking to death on their own vomit or they drown because their lungs fill up with fluid from breathing in frigid arctic air for hundreds of miles on end. What happens to them after the race if they survive? Many are either culled (shot throats slit, drowned) or they go back to life on the end of a four-foot chain 24-7.

Can you guess what the Yukon Quest’s response will be to yet another death? They’ll probably hold another pity party for the musher like they usually do. I have NO sympathy for the musher – the musher had a choice. Five year old Joker did not!

WHEN WILL THIS CARNAGE END? - CONTACT PREMIER SANDY SILVER AT: SANDY.SILVER@GOV.YK.CA AND DEMAND THAT HE RESPOND TO 62,000 PROTESTERS AND STOP FUNDING THIS DEATH RACE!

If you want to help the sled dogs please continue to share this petition on social media. You can also make a donation to keep this petition relevant and help to promote world-wide awareness about The Plight of the Northern Sled Dogs. Most people really have no idea! I hear that over and over again. The fact is that as long as the YG continues to fund this unethical atrocity the Yukon Government has blood on its hands. The Yukon Quest is blatant government-funded animal abuse! https://www.yukonpoetlaureate.com/long-distance-sled-dog-racing/

This petition has been signed by a combined total of 62,839 people from 155 countries around the world. Let’s shoot that number up to 75,000 and let the Yukon Premier know the world is watching - We’re still here and we’re not going away!

The race is ongoing as I write this. Presently I’m supposed to avoid undue stress due to recently having suffered a brain hemorrhage. That’s a pretty hard call for me with this atrocity going on right here in front of me.

On Feb 2 2019 I watched as hundreds of dogs left Whitehorse in -40 below temps. Many suffering ‘medium to severe’ frostbite and yet they were given the go-ahead to run a thousand miles in arctic conditions. I said a silent prayer – “Please let them survive!” Since the race is still ongoing I‘ll say another prayer. I hope you will too. God Bless the Sled Dogs!

RIP Joker. - Until the last sled dog crosses the last finish line!
