In Memoriam

I recently suffered the loss of my beautiful 10 year old yellow lab and best friend Marley. To honour Marley and his canine brothers & sisters who continue to suffer and die in the deadly Yukon Quest 1,000-mile sled dog race please continue to share this petition. I also invite you to make a donation to promote this petition in memory of Boppy the Sled Dog who died in agony in -55 below during last year's cruel 1,000-mile Yukon Quest.

Total petition signers including 1,509 from an earlier platform is now over 30,000 from 138 countries on all seven continents around the world! Meanwhile Yukon Premier Sandy Silver and the Yukon Government continue to turn a blind eye and refuse to respond to thousands who oppose the use of taxpayers’ dollars to fund an event that involves blatant animal abuse.

What You Can Do: Talk to your friends, your family, and your children about the plight of the sled dogs. Post this petition on Facebook and Tweet it to your followers. Help expose the ugly truth about what really happens to animals in long distance sled dog racing by sharing this article ~~> https://bit.ly/2EzQYms

If you are a PARENT or an EDUCATOR: Speak to your children/students about the importance of honouring, respecting & protecting the precious creatures with whom we share this planet. If you are a Yukoner: Let the world know Yukoners will not tolerate the abuse of defenseless animals by signing and sharing this petition in honour of the majestic Malamute that stands so proudly on our Yukon Coat of Arms. - The exploitation and abuse of defenseless animals was never a northern tradition!

Boycott the Sponsors of the Yukon Quest: Help cripple this cruel event by contacting the sponsors. Threaten to boycott them for supporting animal abuse. Sponsors: https://bit.ly/2C5uKdO Send them this article exposing the horror of the sled dog industry: https://bit.ly/2EzQYms

The next race is fast approaching! How many more dogs will be run to death? As the death toll climbs, race veterinarians continue to allow unfit animals to run a thousand-miles in grueling conditions where they choke to death and die in agony like Boppy the Sled Dog did last year and like so many others before him. Please take a moment to Read the Necropsy report for Boppy the Sled Dog: https://www.yukonquest.com/news/final-necropsy-report-boppy-hugh-neffs-dog

All lives matter! Keep opening ears and eyes and hearts. As we stand together to better the lives of the precious northern sled dogs we send a message to the world that the blatant abuse of defenseless animals will no longer be tolerated. We speak with the voices of over 30,000 – Let’s shoot that number up to 35,000!

In celebration of my upcoming 25th year as the Poet Laureate of the Yukon I will soon be releasing a book called “it’s howlin’ time!” that includes a section about the plight of the northern sled dogs.

Still on the trail - Until the last sled dog crosses the last finish line!
