According to the Holidays Act of 1951, the power to declare additional public holidays lies with the Minister in charge of public and bank holidays and not the KDYMMSPBYDPA. However, the spirit of our petition remains the same where we ask the KDYMMSPBYDPA to advise the Minister in question to declare the 9th of May 2018 as a public holiday in the interest of Malaysians, acting in no official role or exercising no vested powers formally but advocating for the action to be performed in the interest of Malaysians.
