Stop the DOKA Plant in Wallington

Stop the DOKA Plant in Wallington

The Issue

Wallington is dangerously close to approving a concrete form cleaning plant that could seriously harm our families and our environment. Please tell our local elected and appointed officials to keep our town toxin free and reject the proposed DOKA plant.

The old Farmland Dairy site has been acquired by DOKA USA LTD, an international concrete form company that wants to use it to make money, at the expense of our property values and health. They are even appealing their property taxes so homeowners will make up the difference!

How did we get to this position?

DOKA USA LTD is a huge corporation that cleans and stores bulky concrete forms through an exhaustive process that requires transporting these forms on 60-foot long flatbed trucks, and power washing and storing them outside. This process can create and spread Particulate Pollution, which the federal Environmental Protection Agency says can cause respiratory problems, especially in children. Breathing concrete dust can kill people with heart or lung conditions, and cause heart attacks, asthma, irregular heart rates, and other potentially life-threatening chronic conditions.

These huge, heavy 60 foot trucks carrying these enormous concrete forms will bounce down local streets on their way to the site, causing costly damage to our roads and dangerous traffic conditions.

Concrete form cleaning also creates brown concrete “washout water” that could seep into our water supply because the site is right on the river.  According to the EPA, “washout water” is more toxic than Drano!

The Borough Council is not protecting us

DOKA claims this project will boost our town’s economy but the opposite is true. If the wind blows the wrong way, concrete dust could spread all over our town and could harm many people. No short-term job growth is worth letting Wallington become an environmental disaster. Building this plant could create significant environmental and public health issues and also depress property values in Wallington!

Stand up to this Corporation!

We can’t let this dangerous plant to be built in our community. Sign this petition to tell Borough Council members that this is the “wrong kind of development” for Wallington.
