Having reached the High Court, the status and significance of our campaign to Protect Wicklesham Quarry from Development has suddenly become much greater.
The Judicial Review on Faringdon Neighbourhood Plan will have important legal consequences far beyond Wicklesham Quarry- the focus of the case- itself. The case raises important questions on three separate areas of planning law. First concerns the role and powers of a Neighbourhood Plan in relation to the strategic policies of the wider Local Plan. Second, the High Court will decide whether Minerals and Waste policies for restoring landscapes damaged by quarrying carry any credibility. And finally, our case asks how a Strategic Environmental Assessment should be carried out, and what part it should play in decision making.
The Judge is considering his verdict, and as soon as there is any news I shall let you know.
Thank you again for the many kind messages of support and 'positive vibes' for Wicklesham Quarry. Was ever a quarry so loved?!
