A list of 235 signatures and comments was submitted in response to Faringdon Neighbourhood Plan public consultation last week, objecting to the proposal to turn Wicklesham Quarry into a 20 acre industrial/warehousing site. As Faringdon resident, Laura Jones, put it,"It would be criminal and heartbreaking to allow development of this site, when sympathetic restoration would provide such a wonderful local resource". A further 68 signatures were submitted in support of the campaign to Restore Wicklesham Quarry, collected in Faringdon market place on Saturday 20th June. Huge thanks to Aimee Harris, our youngest campaigner, who set up a stall outside her house to fund-raise, selling books, DVDs, cake and cordial! Thanks, Aimee! We now await Faringdon Town Council's response to the flood of objections and hope they will see sense, but are preparing for the next stage of the battle. So please- keep sending the petition link on to friends, family and neighbours to boost public awareness and support for saving this unique geological site and natural habitat! For recent pictures of the quarry trying to revert to a more natural state even before being restored, check out the link below to the 2013 survey of the Great Crested Newt habitats at Wicklesham. Thanks so much for your valued support! http://myeplanning.oxfordshire.gov.uk/swiftlg/apas/MediaTemp/205015-18168.pdf
