Dr. Shapiro,
You have spent a career claiming that those who fail the one-size-fits-all early treatment guideline for Lyme disease are suffering medically unexplained symptoms (MUS) with no objective signs of disease.
So what happens to the Lyme patient who is left untreated for months, years or decades as in my personal case; ping-ponged through the medical community for twelve years never once screened for Lyme disease? These patients don’t exist in your mind?
Patients who have had a prolonged exposure to the pathogen are almost always incapacitated.
Lyme disease is a multisystemic illness that destroys patient health as identified in the autopsy report of Dr. Kenneth Liegner’s patient Viki Logan [1] . The destructive nature of Borrelia is evident in Vicki Logan’s liver (nutmeg liver), kidneys, heart, lungs and brain. But those who fail treatment are left to fend for themselves and labeled with “Post Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome” which is simply a fabricated medical condition disguising treatment failure.
Patient testimony all across America is describing a disease that is destroying lives, ending careers while leaving its victim in financial ruin.
My case is no exception.
The following health summary details what I have learned/experienced over the past ten years regarding the destructive nature of Lyme disease through OBJECTIVE signs of disease. (Laboratory confirmation)
Liver
Condition: Acquired methylation cycle block
Symptoms: Brain fog, migraines, fatigue, poor detoxification pathway
Testing for the MTHFR defective gene was negative but homocysteine levels are elevated requiring the need for vitamin B supplementation. The B vitamins must be in the bioavailable form otherwise they are ineffective.
Folic acid = L-5 Methyltetrahydrofolate
B6 = P-5-P
B12 = Methyl B12
Heart
Condition: Poor R-wave progression, Left anterior fascicular block; EKG results
Symptoms: Chest pain, shortness of breath, lack of endurance revealed in Exercise Tolerance Tests
Required taurine supplementation which controls the electrical signals in the heart.
(Dr. Neil Spector required a heart transplant after his Lyme was left untreated for years)
Thyroid
Condition: T4 to T3 conversion defect (hypothyroidism)
Symptoms: low body temperature, cold hands and feet, inability to fight off colds
Required liothyronine T3 supplementation (Synthroid is useless for this condition)
Digestive System
Condition: Chronic constipation
Musculoskeletal pain
Condition: severe widespread pain in the muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons, and nerves.
Required nine months of Vicodin as anti-inflammatories (Motrin) were useless.
Amino Acid Synthesis
Condition: Deficient in 15 out of 21 amino acids from Tufts Medical Center Amino Acid Laboratory Test results.
Immune Suppression
Condition: Reactivated (chronic) Epstein Barr on many occasions leading to lymphoma; cancer of the immune system.
Neurologic
Through neuropsychological testing I was unable to recite verbal paired associates. Five pairs of words were read aloud that I was required to repeat but as soon as the psychologist finished reading the words I couldn’t recall a single word. She read the words over slowly three different times but each time I could recall nothing. This was the single test area of complete failure.
Symptoms: I was forgetting the names of my coworkers of twenty-five years and often didn’t recall where I was on my commute home; job performance plummeted.
Kris Kristofferson was diagnosed with Lyme disease after Alzheimer’s misdiagnosis:

It took years and a small fortune to identify and address this multisystemic illness as a result of untreated Lyme while the focus on Lyme disease remains on the acute stage of disease with bulls-eye rash after early treatment. Over thirty years has passed since the discovery of Lyme disease and we still don’t understand how Lyme disables its victim yet we know that untreated strep throat progress to rheumatic fever, causing irreversible heart damage. Untreated syphilis leads to progressive disability and dementia, and untreated human immunodeficiency virus infection progresses to AIDS with significant disability and death.
Misdiagnosed and untreated Lyme disease creates the same life-altering/life-threatening consequences but this has been hidden from the worldwide medical community and general public through elaborate misinformation campaign orchestrated by the Infectious Disease Society of America and the defendants named in the Texas racketeering lawsuit; with you being one of those defendants.
Ignoring the horribly disabled late stage Lyme patient while focusing on the acute stage of disease with early treatment has been deliberate and blatantly obvious:
Case in point:
NY Times: My Son Got Lyme Disease. He’s Totally Fine.
Eugene Shapiro
Horror stories about lingering Lyme disease proliferate, but the illness is easily treated.

We have a disease that is destroying lives while the CDC and IDSA suppress evidence of persistent infection after extensive antibiotic treatment leaving hundreds of thousands (if not millions) around the globe in a debilitated state; a worldwide public health disaster.
