Please see the following email thread referencing vaccine and chronic Lyme disease. ________________________________________ From: "Carl Tuttle" To: "johns014" Cc: "rchunter" , "dunny001" , "dadavis" , "ekaler" , "karhan" Sent: Friday, April 8, 2016 3:44:34 PM Subject: United States Patent Number 4,721,617 “VACCINE AGAINST LYME DISEASE” January 26, 1988 April 8, 2016 University of Minnesota Microbiology Research Facility CDC: 2821A 689 23rd Avenue SE Minneapolis, MN 55455 Attn: Russell C. Johnson, PhD, Professor Dear Dr Johnson, I would like to call attention to the attached pdf; United States Patent Number 4,721,617. “VACCINE AGAINST LYME DISEASE” January 26, 1988 Excerpts: "The chronic forms of the disease such as arthritis (joint involvement), acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans (skin involvement), and Bannwart's syndrome (neurological involvement) may last for months to years and are associated with the persistence of the spirochete. A case of maternal-fetal transmission of B. burgdorferi resulting in neonatal death has been reported. Domestic animals such as the dog also develop arthritis and lameness to this tick-borne infection. For every symptomatic infection, there is at least one asymptomatic infection. Lyme disease is presently the most commonly reported tick-borne disease in the United States." The patent also claims: "The infection may be treated at any time with antibiotics such as penicillin, erythromycin, tetracycline, and ceftriaxone. Once infection has occurred, however, the drugs may not purge the host of the spirochete but may only act to control the chronic forms of the disease. Complications such as arthritis and fatigue may continue for several years after diagnosis and treatment." ___________________________________ Based on your patent it would appear that chronic Lyme disease was well known in 1988 so how did we end up with Post Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome? Is this “syndrome” a fabricated medical condition disguising treatment failure? Why haven’t you spoken out against the existing dogma which claims persistent infection does not exist? Am I mistaken here or have you kept silent for twenty eight years while Lyme patients have been ostracized, bullied, called “Lyme loonies” by Philip Baker, (Past Lyme disease program officer for the NIH), misdiagnosed as psychiatric patients or the latest designation as quoted by Wormser in the MedPage Today article: "medically unexplained symptoms” (MUS) Have the late stage/chronic Lyme community become collateral damage for a vaccine market in the course of a government sponsored initiative? I await your response. Sincerely, Carl Tuttle Hudson, NH Follow-up email to Dr Johnson.... ________________________________________ From: "Carl Tuttle" To: "johns014" Cc: "rchunter" , "dunny001" , "dadavis" , "ekaler" , "karhan" Sent: Monday, April 11, 2016 9:43:37 AM Subject: Re: United States Patent Number 4,721,617 “VACCINE AGAINST LYME DISEASE” January 26, 1988 April 11, 2016 University of Minnesota Microbiology Research Facility CDC: 2821A 689 23rd Avenue SE Minneapolis, MN 55455 Attn: Russell C. Johnson, PhD, Professor Dear Dr Johnson, In 2008 Nordin Zeidner published his study regarding single dose Doxycycline for tick bite. Pamela Weintraub interviewed Zeidner for her book: Cure Unknown (Revised Edition): Inside the Lyme Epidemic By Pamela Weintraub https://books.google.com/books?id=kEWqCFNrqt4C&pg=PA347&lpg=PA347&dq=Nordin%27s.+Zeidner&source=bl&ots=vKN7k50McS&sig=UFhzYWAEeh1PfE_7VdbH9-38DfA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi_rYefwLjJAhVIVT4KHWrZCLI4ChDoAQghMAE#v=onepage&q=Nordin's.%20Zeidner&f=false Excerpt: “Immunologist Nordin Zeidner, chief of the CDC's Vector-Host laboratory in Fort Collins, Colorado, told me internal agency studies had found the strategy questionable, and definitely ineffective in mice.” “With the support of his CDC colleagues, Zeidner had begun to work with industry to develop an alternative: a form of injectable Doxy that could be sustained in the body for nineteen days.” “Trying his formulation on mice, Zeidner found that 100 percent were protected from Lyme as well as the coinfection, anaplasmosis.” “…..single dose doxy stopped Lyme disease not in 87% of mice, but rather, in 20 to 30 percent at most.” _____________________________ Dr Gary Wormser of New York Medical College (who has controlled the Lyme disease narrative for the past three decades) published a study earlier promoting the use of single dose Doxy for tick bite. (See Wormser’s 2001 flawed NEJM article) I understand that it was Wormser who called Zeidner’s superiors at the CDC to put an end to Zeidner’s work. A search of the HHS Employee Directory for Zeidner will show he is no longer listed. (Previous email address: Naz2@cdc.gov) The CDC stopped his research, sent him to Europe, and promoted him. HHS Directory: http://directory.psc.gov/employee.htm There are other stories of overt intimidation, even threats of job loss for researchers who don't toe the line. It was brought to my attention that you haven’t seen any NIH funding for Lyme research after 1994 which coincides with the Dearborn Conference for Lyme when the case definition and laboratory test requirements were modified to suite vaccine development. (Removal of Western blot bands 31, 34) Wormser of New York Medical College published a recent study after receiving a CDC grant for 1.5 million while excluding the late stage disabled Lyme population conveniently hiding this growing patient population while focusing on the acute stage of disease after early treatment. The deceptive results of his study is then assumed to apply to the entire patient population giving the impression that Lyme is a simple nuisance disease (with minor aches and pains after treatment; PTLDS) and patients who are severely disabled are somehow delusional. (A complaint was filed with the Office of Research Integrity) Complaint: https://www.change.org/p/the-us-senate-calling-for-a-congressional-investigation-of-the-cdc-idsa-and-aldf/u/14006106 Long-term assessment of health-related quality of life in patients with culture-confirmed early Lyme disease. Wormser GP http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25888674 R01 CK000152/CK/NCEZID CDC HHS/United States It is time for the academic community to speak out against this travesty as Professor Holy Ahern (SUNY Adirondack) just did regarding the recent Dutch antibiotic trial: Prof Ahern: “…the study was not designed to provide new knowledge. It was designed to perpetuate existing dogma. …wouldn’t a more cost effective and scientifically useful approach be to try something new?” “The PLEASE article does conclude that patients with “Persistent Lyme” have a very poor quality of life. At least they got that right.” Source: http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/story/opinion/valley-views/2016/04/09/new-lyme-study-offers-little-insight-into-epidemic/82750826/ ______________________________ Lyme disease has been horribly mishandled and classified as a simple nuisance disease. The worldwide pain and suffering as a result is unimaginable as we learned recently that cancer researcher Dr Neil Spector required a heart transplant after four years of undiagnosed Lyme disease left his heart so badly damaged he needed a transplant.
