As many of you may know, this petition was created as part of a larger project for a clean energy future, but really, it started with the film, "Radiation Filters." Tomorrow, May 17th, the filmmakers begin their California screening tour, sharing their film with hundreds of people along the golden coast, in cities and towns likely to be irradiated if ever we had a nuclear disaster at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. Thirteen fault lines do not lie. They, in fact, like to shake, and the "big one" is overdue. But who even knows that California's got a nuclear plant? Who outside of San Luis Obispo county, aside from the few of us who found heard about it somewhere, really cares? The filmmakers hope to answer that question. Already after three sold-out screenings in the Bay Area, hundreds more people are finding out about what PG&E is "splitting in two." What the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is trying — currently — to relicense. Why there is nuclear waste buried on San Francisco's Treasure Island. And what actually happened when three of Fukushima's reactors melted down, and what we can and cannot do about it. And the screening tour continues for another three weeks. Esalen (May 17), San Luis Obispo (May 20), Santa Barbara (May 21), Los Angeles (May 25, 27, & 28), San Clemente (May 31) and even Joshua Tree (June 4) will know what nuclear radiation is. Will laugh with the characters whose narrative plots fuel fictional love stories as real witness testimony and expert knowledge plunge us deeper into the truth about the nuclear industry and its devastating accidents.
